How to Grow Spiritually.

Many Christians ask the same question at some point in their faith journey:

“Why do I feel stuck?”

They attend church.

They listen to sermons.

They know Bible stories.

Yet something still feels missing.

The problem often isn’t a lack of information.

It’s that spiritual growth requires more than simply knowing about God.

It requires knowing Him personally, discerning His voice, and obeying what He says.

This message reminds us that lasting spiritual growth happens when knowledge, discernment,
and action work together.

Knowledge Is the Beginning of Spiritual Growth

The prophet Hosea writes that God’s people perish for lack of knowledge.

Knowledge matters.

We cannot follow a God we do not know.

Scripture introduces us to God’s character, His promises, His heart, and His purposes.

Every time we open God’s Word, we are learning more about who He is.

But knowledge alone is not enough.

Many people know Scripture without allowing Scripture to shape their lives.

Information by itself never produces transformation.

Discernment Helps Us Recognize God’s Voice

Knowledge fills the mind.

Discernment trains the heart.

Throughout the sermon, we were reminded that discernment is more than intelligence.

It is learning to recognize God’s voice and distinguish truth from deception.

The world constantly offers competing voices.

Culture tells us one thing.

Social media tells us another.

Opinions shift every day.

But believers who spend time with Jesus begin developing a spiritual sensitivity to His voice.

Just as someone who spends time tasting good food recognizes quality, those who spend time
in God’s presence learn to recognize His character and His leading.

Obedience Turns Faith Into Action

Many believers stop after gaining knowledge.

Others pray for discernment but hesitate when God speaks.

James reminds us that faith without works is dead.

Faith becomes visible through obedience.

Obedience is where spiritual growth becomes real.

It’s one thing to know what God says.

It’s another thing to actually do it.

Every act of obedience strengthens our faith and deepens our relationship with Him.

God Never Intended These Three to Be Separated

One of the central illustrations from this message was a threefold cord.

Knowledge.
Discernment.
Action.

Each strand strengthens the others.

Knowledge without discernment becomes information.

Discernment without action becomes hesitation.

Action without knowledge becomes foolishness.

But when all three work together, believers grow stronger spiritually and become more effective
in God’s Kingdom.

Growth Happens Through Relationship, Not Routine

Spiritual maturity is not measured by how much information we know.

It is measured by how closely we walk with Jesus.

The more we know Him…
The easier it becomes to recognize His voice.

The more we recognize His voice…
The more confidently we obey.

And every step of obedience produces even deeper intimacy with Him.

Growth isn’t about checking religious boxes.

It’s about developing a relationship with the One who saved us.

What Is Your Next Step?

One of the most practical moments in this message came through a simple question:

What is your next step of obedience?

For some people, that next step is salvation.
For others, it’s baptism.
For some, it’s forgiveness.
For others, it’s serving.

The important thing isn’t comparing your journey to someone else’s.

The important thing is responding to whatever God is asking you to do today.

Spiritual growth always moves one step at a time.
