Why You Feel Discouraged in Your Faith (Even When You’re Doing the Right Things)

When Nothing Seems to Be Happening, God Is Still Working

There are seasons in our lives where it feels like we’re doing everything we know to do – but nothing is changing.

We’re praying, but not seeing answers.

We’re believing, but not seeing results

We’re trying to stay faithful, but it feels like nothing is happening.

It can leave us quietly asking, Why does it feel like God isn’t working? Or Why don’t I see any results from my faith?

If you’ve ever felt that way, you’re not alone.

In this message, we’re reminded of a simple but powerful truth: just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean God isn’t working.

Pastor Justin just painted the picture of a farmer who had been working his field for months with no visible results. Day after day, he showed up, planted, watered, and waited – only to see nothing on the surface. It would have been easy to walk away and assume all of that effort was wasted.

But what he couldn’t see was what was happening underground.

Roots were forming. Life was developing. Growth was taking place beneath the surface. And what looked like nothing was actually the beginning of a harvest.

That picture reflects what many of us experience in our lives.

We’ve been praying for people we love.

We’ve been believing for change.

We’ve been inviting, serving, and staying faithful.

And yet, it can feel like the ground is silent.

But Scripture reminds us to shift our perspective.

In John 4, Jesus tells His disciples, “Lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest.”

While they were focused on what they could see in the natural, Jesus was pointing them to what was already happening in the spiritual.

Sometimes the issue isn’t that nothing is happening – it’s that we’re looking in the wrong place.

We’re looking at the delay.

God is preparing the harvest.

We’re focused on what hasn’t changed.

God is working beneath the surface.

This is especially important to remember when we feel discouraged in our faith. Because discouragement often comes from expecting immediate results, while God is working on a deeper timeline.

Scripture also reminds us that harvest always follows sowing.

In Psalm 126, we’re told that those who sow in tears will reap in joy.

That means every prayer you’ve prayed, every invitation you’ve extended, every moment you’ve stayed faithful when it would have been easier to quit – it all matters.

God never wastes a seed.

Even when the time is right, the harvest will come.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Throughout Scripture, we see that God doesn’t just bring a harvest – He multiplies it.

When seed falls on good soil, it produces more than what was originally sown. Thirty, sixty, even a hundred times more.

And not only does God multiply harvests – He repeats them.

In the book of Acts, we see thousands of people come to faith, and then thousands more. What God did once, He continued to do again and again.

Because God doesn’t run out of power, and He doesn’t run out of mercy.

That’s the heart behind this message: what God has done before, He can do again.

And not just again – but greater.

As we move toward Easter, this becomes more than just a personal reminder. It becomes an invitation.

There are people all around us who are searching, hurting, and looking for hope. The fields are ready, even if we don’t always recognize it.

And sometimes the difference between someone encountering Jesus and staying where they are.. Is simply an invitation.

But before we look ahead, it’s worth asking a personal question.

Where have you been tempted to give up?

Where have you been praying, believing, or sowing without seeing results?

This week, hold onto this truth: what feels like a delay may actually be preparation.

God is not absent.

God is not inactive.

God is working – even when you can’t see it yet.

So don’t walk away from what God is still growing.

Lift your eyes.

Look at the field.

Because the harvest may be closer than you think.
