What Happens When You Stop Putting God First

What Happens When You Stop Putting God First
There are moments in life where things just feel off

You’re moving, making decisions, chasing goals – but something still feels out of place. The
pressure builds, confusion creeps in, and nothing seems to settle the way you hoped it would.

Eventually, it leads to a deeper question: what happens when I stop putting God first?

If you’ve ever felt that tension, you’re not alone.

In this message, we’re reminded of a simple but powerful truth found in Matthew 6:33:

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to
you.”

What You Put First Shapes Everything Else

What you seek first becomes your foundation.

Just like building a house, the first step matters most. If the foundation is off, everything built on
top of it will eventually feel unstable.

The same is true in life.

If success is first, you may achieve, but still feel empty.
If approval is first, you’ll always feel unstable.

If comfort is first, you’ll avoid the very purpose God created you for.

However, when God is first, everything else begins to align.

Why We Drift from What Matters Most

The world constantly pulls at your attention.

It tells you to chase money, build an image, and follow whatever makes you feel good in the
moment. At first, those things seem harmless. Over time, though, they begin to shape your
priorities.

And slowly, without realizing it, God moves from first… to somewhere else.

That’s where confusion begins.

Because when we seek everything else begins to align.

Seeking God First Changes Everything

Jesus didn’t say to seek Him eventually.

He didn’t say to figure everything else out first.

Instead, He said to seek Him first.

That changes everything.

Because when God becomes your foundation:
● Peace replaces anxiety
● Purpose replaces confusion
● Faith replaces fear

And instead of trying to hold everything together on your own, you begin to trust the One who
already holds it all.

God is After Your Heart, Not Just Your Actions

Seeking God first is not just about what you do, it’s about who you’re becoming.

The world focuses on image, success, and achievement.

God focused on character.
He cares about integrity.
He cares about your heart.
He cares about who you are when no one else is watching.

Because that’s what lasts.

The Danger of Putting Everything Else First

It’s possible to build a life that looks successful, but feels empty.

It’s possible to sit in church, go through routines, and still miss transformation.

Because when God isn’t first, everything else eventually takes His place.

And when that happens, we end up chasing things that can never truly satisfy us.

When God Is First, He Takes Care of the Rest

Jesus makes a promise in Matthew 6:33:

When you seek Him first, everything else falls into place.

That doesn’t mean life becomes perfect.

But it does mean you’re no longer trying to carry it alone.

God brings direction.
God opens doors.
God provides what you need.

And most importantly, He gives you something the world never can: peace.

The Real Test Isn’t in Church

It’s easy to feel close to God in a moment like this.

But the real test happens later.

It happens when you’re alone.
When you’re making decisions.
When no one else is watching.

That’s where priorities are revealed.

That’s where you choose what comes first.
